Audience Watching Avatar 2 Dies from 'Excitable Cardiac Arrest'
Excessive Excitement Can Cause Coronary Artery Rupture
Similar Tragedy Occurred During Avatar 1 in 2010
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jung-wan] An incident occurred in India where a moviegoer watching the film 'Avatar: The Way of Water' at a theater died from an excitement-induced heart attack.
According to foreign media including the British daily Metro and India's local media India Today on the 21st (Korean time), Mr. A, who was watching 'Avatar 2' with his younger brother at a cinema in Kakinada city, Andhra Pradesh, India, suddenly collapsed during the screening. Mr. A received emergency treatment and was transported to a nearby hospital but was ultimately pronounced dead.
Walt Disney Company Korea announced on the 18th at 7 a.m., based on the 'Integrated Computer Network for Movie Theater Tickets,' that the cumulative audience number for the movie 'Avatar' sequel 'Avatar: The Way of Water' (Avatar 2) reached approximately 2,414,000. He added, "Excessive excitement can cause a rise in blood pressure, which may rupture the coronary arteries, leading to sudden cardiac arrest. Occasionally, such incidents occur during intense sports events or movie viewings," he explained.
This is not the first case of a moviegoer dying while watching 'Avatar.' In 2010, a 42-year-old Taiwanese man died of a heart attack while watching the original 'Avatar,' the prequel to 'Avatar 2.' The man, who had a history of hypertension, received emergency treatment and was taken to a nearby hospital but ultimately passed away.
Additionally, in India, incidents have occurred where viewers watching 'The Conjuring 2' and 'Alien 2' collapsed and died from shock. In Japan, several people suffered fatal heart attacks during the release of horror films 'Ju-on' and 'Ring.'
Meanwhile, 'Avatar 2,' the sequel to 'Avatar' directed by James Cameron after 13 years, begins with Jake Sully and Neytiri marrying and starting a family on the planet Pandora. The film depicts the ruthless threats the family faces, their long journey and battles to survive, and the wounds they must endure.
