On the 21st, Suwon City announced that Sukji Park was selected as a target site for the Ecosystem Conservation Charge Refund Project implemented by the Ministry of Environment last January, and with a national subsidy of 430 million KRW, an ecological forest covering 9,380㎡ was created in the area of 336 Hwaseo-dong, Paldal-gu.
The newly created Sukji Park ecological forest is part of the park land that had been damaged by unauthorized cultivation and illegal dumping of waste due to project delays caused by budget shortages after land compensation.
The city transformed this area into a healing space where people and nature coexist by improving soil conditions and establishing habitats for diverse organisms.
The ecological forest was planted with 229 trees of 11 species of large trees such as Quercus variabilis and Quercus acutissima, and 7,922 shrubs of 10 species including Spiraea salicifolia and Viburnum dilatatum, turning it into a nature-friendly space.
Additionally, facilities such as a 'bird-attracting forest' where birds can inhabit, a 'carbon reduction forest' practicing carbon neutrality, and a 'rainwater wetland' providing ecological water for wild animals and plants were installed.
Along with this, 6 species totaling 6,400 plants including Iris ensata, Lysimachia clethroides, and Miscanthus sinensis were planted to create a 'wildflower garden' and 'azalea resting area,' and convenience was enhanced with trails and resting spots that local residents can use as resting spaces.
