Gyeonggi Office of Education to Provide 9.8 Billion KRW Support to 37 Schools Affected by Military Facility Noise Next Year
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will expand its support projects for schools affected by military facility noise in the province starting next year.
Schools affected by military facility noise refer to those suffering from sounds generated by military airfields, shooting ranges, and other military facilities. As of October this year, there are a total of 159 schools affected by military facility noise in the province.
These schools are categorized as follows: ▲ 19 schools that conducted self-investigation and applied ▲ 132 schools in noise countermeasure areas or nearby schools based on the noise service results from the Provincial Office of Education and the Ministry of National Defense ▲ 8 schools investigated on-site by the Provincial Office of Education.
The Provincial Office of Education has designated 37 schools as support targets for military facility noise damage next year and plans to invest 9.8 billion KRW to carry out damage support projects such as facility replacement and improvement.
In particular, to support noise damage at school sites from multiple angles, support will be provided not only for window replacement and heating/cooling system improvements but also for classroom door replacement, soundproofing and broadcasting facility improvements, and meditation education.
Cheon Sang-bong, Director of the Educational Environment Improvement Division at the Provincial Office of Education, emphasized, "To ensure that students do not face difficulties in learning due to military facility noise, the Provincial Office of Education will annually assess the actual conditions of military noise damage and do its best to support damage relief through on-site demand surveys."
