Hyundai Motor Reveals Design of 'The All New Kona'..."Sales Start Early Next Year"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Hyundai Motor Company's representative compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) has returned with a new look.
Hyundai Motor Company unveiled the refreshed futuristic design of the 'The All-New Kona' on the 20th. The designs of three models?electric vehicle, internal combustion engine (including hybrid), and N Line?were presented together.
'The All-New Kona' is the second-generation new model introduced five years after its first appearance in June 2017. It secures ample space with a length of 4,350mm, which is 145mm longer, and a wheelbase of 2,660mm, 60mm longer than before. The electric vehicle and N Line models have lengths of 4,355mm and 4,385mm, respectively.
The Kona’s design started with the electric vehicle model and was then refined to suit the internal combustion engine and N Line models. The front features a ‘Seamless Horizon Lamp’ that highlights Kona’s presence. The rear also applies horizontal lamps similar to the front to create a sense of unity.
Based on the electric vehicle design, Kona applies distinctive points tailored to each model’s characteristics to express unique individuality. The electric vehicle model features Hyundai’s new lighting design characteristic with a parametric pixel form. It is the first to apply the ‘Pixelated Seamless Horizon Lamp.’ Additionally, the front and rear bumper lower parts adopt a parametric pixel structure design, emphasizing a clean and futuristic image of the Kona.
The internal combustion engine and hybrid models incorporate a bold front bumper design and a skid plate that emphasizes strength and toughness, embodying Kona’s identity. The N Line completes a sportier stance with a front bumper design that highlights sportiness and silver side skirts, making the posture appear lower.
Along with the exterior design of the Kona, Hyundai also revealed the interior image of the electric vehicle model. The interior is characterized by a flexible design to provide a more advanced mobility experience tailored to diverse customer lifestyles.
It features a 12.3-inch dual wide display and driver-centric controls. The horizontally laid-out crash pad secures forward visibility and maximizes a sense of spaciousness. The second row is equipped with sofa-shaped bench seats that provide comfortable seating without any contours.
Thanks to the gear knob moved to the steering wheel, the freed-up console space offers ample storage convenience along with a clean interior image. Some interior storage spaces also feature mood lighting, considering both passenger convenience and emotional aspects.
Lee Sang-yeop, Vice President of Hyundai Design Center, stated, “The All-New Kona inherits Kona’s unique character while upscaling it to become bolder and more evolved in every aspect. The All-New Kona will be a true lifestyle supporter that can broadly embrace a diverse range of customers.”
