US Jan 6 Capitol Riot Committee Recommends DOJ Indict Trump
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] The U.S. House January 6th Capitol Riot Investigation Committee has recommended criminal prosecution of former President Donald Trump to the Department of Justice.
According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and others, the committee adopted a final report containing this opinion at its last meeting on the 19th (local time), concluding an 18-month investigation. This is the first time a criminal prosecution recommendation has been made against a former president.
The committee concluded that former President Trump bears ultimate responsibility for the January 6th Capitol riot last year, which was led by his far-right supporters. Accordingly, it recommended charging former President Trump with four counts, including incitement of insurrection and obstruction of official proceedings.
