Busan Office of Education Takes the Lead in Advancing Education in Gangseo-gu... Concentrated Administrative Efforts by the Education Office
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education is concentrating its administrative efforts to develop education in schools within Gangseo-gu, focusing on resolving oversized and overcrowded classes and improving the quality of education in small-scale schools.
To alleviate overcrowded classes in the Myeongji area, the Office of Education plans to establish a total of nine new schools and kindergartens by 2026, including three kindergartens, three elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, and one special school.
In particular, the confirmed relocation of Busan Nam High School from Yeongdo-gu to Gangseo-gu is expected to contribute to easing overcrowded classes in high schools within the district.
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education is implementing various educational policies to provide quality educational opportunities to students in Gangseo-gu.
To offer international education opportunities to students, the Office is continuously consulting with the Busan city government to establish the foreign educational institution ‘Royal Russell School’ in the Myeongji International New City.
Additionally, Gangseo-gu schools are prioritized in supporting the foundation for the introduction of the high school credit system. Myeongho High School and Busan Gangseo High School have been designated as research schools, while small-scale schools Deokmun High School and Busan Daejeo High School have been designated as ‘On-Gong Classroom’ member schools to support the establishment of the high school credit system.
‘On-Gong Classroom’ refers to schools that support online classes within the regular curriculum.
The Office of Education is also actively improving the educational environment of schools in Gangseo-gu. Nokmyeong Elementary School, a small-scale school, is planned to be transformed into a Green Smart Future School capable of implementing future-oriented teaching and learning by 2027.
Gyeongil Middle School and Ocean Middle School created future-oriented math learning spaces this year through the ‘Busan Intelligent Mathematics Lab Construction’ project.
Deokdu Elementary School, which was closed in 2019, will be transformed into the ‘(tentative name) Deokdo Art Maru,’ an arts education hub for the Myeongji and Gangseo areas, opening in March 2024.
The experience center will provide personal spaces for artists and introduce new art experience education involving artists.
Along with this, programs such as ‘Family Camp’ and ‘Reading Program Support for Students and Parents linked with the National Assembly Busan Library’ will offer high-quality cultural and artistic enjoyment opportunities to students and local residents.
