Local Governments, Education Offices, Police Agency, and Parents Sign Agreement to Establish Busan-Style Unified School Commute Safety Network
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Public institutions and parents in Busan are joining forces to establish a network for the safety of students commuting to and from school.
To build a safety net for commuting routes in Busan, the Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, and the Green Mothers' Association joined hands on the 19th.
Busan announced that at 8:20 a.m. on the same day, it signed a business agreement at Yangdong Elementary School in Busanjin-gu to establish a Busan-style integrated school commuting environment safety network.
This agreement was prepared to establish mutual support and cooperation systems among Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Office of Education, Busan Police Agency, and Busan Green Mothers' Association with the purpose of creating a safety net for school commuting routes.
The agreement determined the implementation tasks for each institution. The detailed contents include ▲ expansion of infrastructure for traffic safety on school commuting routes and children's school buses (Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Office of Education, Busan Police Agency), ▲ enforcement against traffic violations on school commuting routes (Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Police Agency), and ▲ strengthening campaigns and traffic guidance volunteer activities to spread traffic safety culture around schools (Busan Green Mothers' Association).
Attending the signing ceremony were Park Hyung-joon, Mayor of Busan, Ha Yun-su, Superintendent of Busan Office of Education, Woo Cheol-moon, Chief of Busan Police Agency, and Kim Ah-kyung, President of Busan Green Mothers' Association.
Before the ceremony, the heads of participating institutions conducted a safety campaign timed with the arrival of Yangdong Elementary School students and inspected nearby redevelopment construction sites, discussing measures to secure safety on school commuting routes with related personnel.
Mayor Park Hyung-joon said, “This is a meaningful occasion to express the strong will of related agencies to create safe commuting routes and to establish a cooperative system trusted by citizens,” adding, “It will be a good opportunity to improve safety on school commuting routes.”
Busan Metropolitan City is continuously promoting ‘facility improvement projects’ such as installing unmanned traffic enforcement equipment and safety guardrails within protection zones, and ‘visibility enhancement projects’ such as installing yellow footprints, yellow carpets, and ground traffic lights to build safe school commuting routes.
