Activation of 'Pohang Big Data AI Innovation Center' Expected to Propel City as Leader in Data Economy
On the 16th, the Korea Data Industry Promotion Agency, Gyeongbuk Province, and POSTECH held the "Data Voucher Support Project Briefing and Gyeongbuk Data Performance Roadshow" at the POSCO International Hall.
View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Dong-guk] Pohang City held the ‘Data Voucher Support Project Briefing and Gyeongbuk Data Performance Roadshow’ on the 16th at the POSCO International Hall together with the Korea Data Industry Promotion Agency, Gyeongbuk Province, and POSTECH to introduce data into local industries and promote related industries.
The ‘Data Voucher Support Project’ is one of the government’s data utilization support projects hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and organized by the Korea Data Industry Promotion Agency. It aims to revitalize the data economy by supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, small business owners, startups, and others in adopting data when developing new products and services.
Companies in need of data can apply for the project, undergo an internal review, and if selected, receive various data such as floating population, company information, SNS, consumption, marketing, weather information, real estate, and transportation.
At the event, the 2023 government data voucher support project was introduced in detail, outstanding cases that achieved results by participating in the project were presented, followed by a Q&A session. In the second part of the event, a company matching consultation desk was operated to match demand companies interested in data with supply companies and provide consulting.
This year, 13 local companies were finally selected as demand companies and received 660 million KRW in support. Going forward, the city plans to continuously hold briefing sessions and promote the project in cooperation with the Korea Data Industry Promotion Agency so that more local companies can apply as demand companies and receive data support.
Through this briefing session, the city expects to lay the foundation for improving local awareness of data and serving as an effective means for innovation in future projects by providing opportunities to encounter cases of utilizing and commercializing data.
Recently, the government has emphasized the importance of the data industry, such as implementing a digital economy and a digital platform government, and is accelerating support and revitalization of data-related industries.
Pohang City also hopes to take a step closer to becoming a data-leading city through the activation of the Big Data AI Innovation Center, continuous cultivation of data professionals, increased demand for data support projects, increased corporate data utilization, job creation, corporate attraction, and industrial development.
