View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jung-wan] The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced on the 16th (Korean time) that Polish referee Szymon Marciniak (41) will serve as the main referee for the Qatar World Cup final. This is the first time a Polish referee has been assigned as the main referee for a FIFA World Cup final. The assistant referees will be fellow Poles Paweł Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz.
Marciniak, who participated as a World Cup referee for the second consecutive time following the 2018 Russia tournament, officiated the Group D second match between France and Denmark and the Round of 16 match between Argentina and Australia in this tournament.
In these two matches, Marciniak issued a total of five yellow cards: three in the France-Denmark group stage match and two in the Argentina-Australia Round of 16 match. There were no red cards or penalty kicks in the matches he officiated.
The Qatar World Cup final between Argentina and France will be held at Lusail Stadium at midnight on the 19th. Prior to the final, the third-place playoff between Croatia and Morocco will take place at Khalifa International Stadium at midnight on the 18th, with Qatari referee Abdulrahman Al Jassim serving as the main referee.
