View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Hanwha Life Insurance announced on the 16th that it will start ‘ProBono-type’ social contribution activities to transform the paradigm of face-to-face volunteer work changed by COVID-19.
‘ProBono’ refers to talent donation activities that utilize skilled knowledge or technology to help socially vulnerable groups. While traditional volunteer work mainly focused on beneficiary-centered activities through charitable volunteering, ProBono is differentiated by being an activity that not only enhances employees’ sense of fulfillment and company loyalty but also enables sustainable social responsibility.
To this end, since July, Hanwha Life Insurance has selected about 30 employees from various fields to participate in the first round of a professional volunteer group for talent donation activities. They are also undergoing about three months of specialized training in cooking (baking and pastry), horticulture (floristry), and content (photography/video) fields.
In the future, the company plans to expand the fields of talent donation and participating employees by reflecting internal and external trends such as environment, healthcare, and finance.
As the first step of the ProBono volunteer activities, Hanwha Life Insurance carried out a ‘Relay Talent Donation’ event for Christmas from the 12th to the 16th of this month.
First, the floristry professional volunteer group conducted a ‘flower cake making’ activity for patients with rare and intractable diseases and their families. In addition, the baking and pastry professional volunteer group made bread and pies, which were delivered along with Christmas cards to local children’s centers and families of patients with rare and intractable diseases.
Meanwhile, Hanwha Life Insurance explained that it conducted its first face-to-face volunteer activities this year for socially marginalized communities and vulnerable groups due to COVID-19, and also carried out a relay volunteer service involving about 200 employees, including the professional volunteer group.
Activities include ‘Christmas vegan cookie making’ for children at local children’s centers, ‘cloth sanitary pad production’ for girls in Tanzania in cooperation with World Vision, ‘healing cushion making’ for elderly living alone, and ‘natural scrubbing sponge making’ for single-parent families.
