Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education Awards '2022 Science Teacher of the Year' to 3 Recipients

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced on the 15th that three teachers from Jeonnam were selected as recipients of the ‘2022 Science Teacher of the Year Award,’ hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and organized by the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity.
The awardees are teachers Kang Shin-ok (Nampyeong Elementary School), Lim Kwon-il (Cheontae Elementary School), and Lee Mi-seong (Mokpo Deokin High School), respectively.
The ‘Science Teacher of the Year Award’ has been operating since 2003 to discover and honor science teachers who have contributed to the revitalization of science education and the spread of scientific culture.
Teacher Kang Shin-ok was recognized for developing science programs utilizing advanced technology to improve classes and nurturing dreams of science among students in rural and island areas. She also guided gifted students from underprivileged groups, authored books and teaching materials for science education and convergence education innovation, and participated in research on AI education for elementary, middle, and high schools.
Teacher Lim Kwon-il published seven science books and operates the blog ‘Lim Kwon-il’s Stories of Life on Our Land’ and the biological observation record app ‘Observing Bugs.’ His published books have been recognized for their expertise and achievements, including winning the Changbi Good Children’s Book Award.
Teacher Lee Mi-seong operated creative convergence science lab model schools to build science education infrastructure for future education and contributed to multiple student awards in various science competitions.
The awardees expressed, “We will walk the challenging path of science education together with our juniors,” and added, “We will continue to learn together, strive to revitalize scientific culture, and become science teachers who share happiness with all students.”
Kim Eun-seop, Director of the Future Talent Division, said, “The practice of creative convergence education that imagines and challenges for the future society requires providing sufficient opportunities to students and strengthening the capabilities of field teachers,” and added, “Jeonnam Office of Education will continue to support various research activities of science teachers and improve the teaching environment.”
