Ethical Management, ‘Eco-friendly’ Mill Operation … BPA Selected as ESG-based ‘Community Contribution Recognized Company’
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Dooyul] Busan Port Authority (BPA) was recently selected as a ‘Community Contribution Recognized Company’ jointly organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea National Council on Social Welfare.
BPA was recognized for its contributions to improving the quality of life of local residents, revitalizing the community, and continuously carrying out port-specialized social contribution activities.
The Community Contribution Recognition System evaluates the contribution activities of target companies in the fields of Environment (E), Society (S), and Governance (G) in five stages. BPA received good evaluations ranging from levels 4 to 5 across all evaluation items in the E, S, and G fields.
In particular, BPA received high evaluations for its efforts to recognize and solve regional issues with various stakeholders and to share and spread the results internally and externally, such as participating in the Busan Regional Problem-Solving Platform, operating ESG practitioners’ meetings for Busan Port terminal operators, and publishing a sustainability management report.
Additionally, BPA received top-level evaluations in the environmental and ethical management fields due to efforts to create an eco-friendly port, such as developing the LNG-hybrid straddle carrier (S/C), and active communication with stakeholders for ethical management.
Moreover, BPA has carried out various social contribution activities for the communities near the port, including promoting the public-private-civic collaboration project ‘Plastic Mill in Busan,’ supporting fishing villages through the Gyeongnam Regional Problem-Solving Platform, and providing tours of Busan Port for vulnerable groups.
‘Plastic Mill in Busan’ is a resource circulation project that collects plastics such as HDPP and PP gathered by public institutions and citizens, cleans and crushes them, and remakes them into products like tube squeezers and cup coasters.
