Gwangju Seo-gu, Ranked 1st for Three Consecutive Years in Regulatory Reform Excellence Evaluation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Yi-gang) has been selected as the top district for three consecutive years in the ‘2022 Regulatory Reform Excellent Autonomous District Evaluation,’ receiving an institutional commendation and an incentive of 40 million KRW.
According to Seo-gu on the 14th, this evaluation assessed the regulatory reform performance conducted this year by Gwangju Metropolitan City targeting five autonomous districts.
The evaluation covered six indicators in two categories, including government joint evaluation indicators and certification system diagnostic indicators, assessing achievements in discovering and improving regulations by central government ministries, revising unreasonable local ordinances, and the operation status of regulatory innovation systems.
Earlier in July, Seo-gu conducted a full survey of local ordinance regulations under its jurisdiction, reexamining the necessity of 21 regulations related to small business owners, and achieved tangible results by reorganizing them through the Regulatory Reform Committee.
Additionally, Seo-gu was highly evaluated for actively promoting the resolution of regulations closely related to residents’ lives and for cases where issues discovered through the operation of the Visiting Local Regulation Reporting Center were reflected in central government ministries.
An official from the Audit Department stated, “The improvement of unreasonable regulations in daily life through the operation of the Visiting Local Regulation Reporting Center received favorable reviews,” adding, “We will continue to promote proactive, field-centered regulatory reforms.”
Meanwhile, in October, Seo-gu was certified as an excellent institution in the ‘2022 Local Regulatory Innovation Excellent Institution Evaluation’ hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, receiving a Prime Minister’s commendation along with a special grant of 100 million KRW.
