Woori Financial Group Supports Financial Sector Statement of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop] Woori Financial Group announced on the 14th that it signed the joint financial sector statement at the "United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Conference of the Parties (COP15)" and discussed biodiversity conservation measures with the international community.
The CBD was adopted by the United Nations in 1992 to strengthen international cooperation for the conservation of biodiversity and the restoration of natural ecosystems. Along with the Climate Change Convention and the Desertification Convention, it is one of the UN's three major environmental agreements. The UN is holding the 15th CBD Conference of the Parties in Montreal, Canada, from the 7th to the 19th of this month.
Woori Financial Group supported the adoption of the "Global Biodiversity Framework" to halt biodiversity loss. It directly signed the "Financial Sector Statement on the Biodiversity Convention." The statement urges financial companies to implement environmental agreements. In addition to Woori Financial, 150 global financial companies participated in the statement. Woori Financial plans to explore cooperation measures with other major international organizations and the financial sector.
