[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyoon] Lotte Chemical announced on the 14th that it has been certified as a family-friendly company that exemplary operates work-family balance systems.
The family-friendly company certification system is overseen by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and is based on the "Act on the Promotion of Creating a Family-Friendly Social Environment." It grants certification to excellent companies and institutions that support pregnancy, childbirth, and child-rearing, and strive to create a family-friendly corporate culture through flexible work arrangements. The system was first introduced in 2008, and the certification is valid for three years.
Lotte Chemical has operated various family-friendly systems to support employees' work-family balance. Since receiving its first certification in 2014, it has been re-certified for the third time. The family-friendly company certification will be maintained until 2025.
To enhance employee happiness, Lotte Chemical implements customized welfare systems tailored to employees' life and living cycles from recruitment to retirement. For maternal protection and childcare encouragement, the company operates programs such as ▲ two years of maternity leave for women ▲ infertility support ▲ company housing and housing purchase or jeonse loan support ▲ operation of workplace daycare centers ▲ provision of children's tuition fees.
Given the petrochemical industry's characteristic of having a high proportion of male employees, Lotte Chemical has operated paternity leave since 2017. It established a system mandating a one-month leave period for male employees who have had children. To alleviate financial difficulties caused by taking leave, the first month of leave is compensated at 100% of the regular wage, creating an environment where employees can freely utilize paternity leave.
Furthermore, to create a flexible working environment and improve work-life balance, the company implements ▲ selective working hours system, ▲ healing vacation system (support for vacation expenses when using five or more days of annual leave), and ▲ creative leave for executives and staff (one-month leave with vacation expenses provided) for recharging.
