[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gangwon Province is hosting the 'Gangwon Snow Festa' in collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization to attract foreign tourists during the winter season.
From this month until March next year, the province plans to focus on showcasing Gangwon's winter attractions and experiences through programs that combine representative winter tourism (snow, skiing, festivals) with Hallyu content.
In partnership with the Korea Tourism Organization, Yongpyong and High1 Resorts, the province will promote winter ski-specialized products such as Ski (Yongpyong) and GoGo Ski (High1) to attract group tourists from Greater China (Hong Kong, Taiwan) and Southeast Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, etc.).
As a stay-type product in Gangwon where visitors can enjoy skiing, sledding, and Hallyu experiences simultaneously, the program includes 1-2 days of ski lessons and free skiing, followed by a ski competition and Hallyu performance program on the third day.
During the winter festivals in the province (7 festivals across 6 cities/counties), an 'Foreigners Snow G (Gangwon) Shuttle Tourism Product' will be operated for individual foreign tourists, making it easy to reach festival locations from the metropolitan area.
In particular, the province plans to actively utilize the winter wonder sledding experience product at Gangwon's representative Hallyu tourist site 'Chuncheon Nami Island' and the 'BTS In The Soop Pyeongchang Filming Site' tour product, which has recently gained high interest from overseas tourists as a new Hallyu tourist destination.
Additionally, promotional marketing efforts to capture overseas markets will be carried out, including snow festa winter product promotions through global OTA travel agencies, live online tours using overseas influencers, and SNS online advertising.
In line with the launch of the Yangyang-Taiwan (Taipei) international flight, the Korea Tourism Organization and Fly Gangwon invited 16 local travel industry professionals from Taiwan (December 13-17) to develop stay-type tourism products in Yangyang, Sokcho, Gangneung, and Pyeongchang areas.
With the full resumption of international tourism and the expansion of international flights at Yangyang Airport, the province aims to attract about 4,000 tourists for winter specialized products (Fun & GoGo Ski, etc.) and 30,000 foreign tourists through city/county winter festivals, Snow G-Shuttle, and Hallyu experience products.
