Gwangju Seo-gu Selected as 'Outstanding Local Government' at Carbon Neutrality Conference
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim I-gang) announced on the 13th that it was selected as an excellent local government for carbon neutrality at the 2022 Local Government Carbon Neutrality Conference hosted by the Ministry of Environment and Korea Environment Corporation.
The Ministry of Environment and Korea Environment Corporation held a contest for excellent carbon neutrality cases targeting local governments nationwide to share and spread achievements of region-led carbon neutrality best practices. Among a total of 34 local governments, seven, including Seo-gu, received the Minister of Environment’s Commendation.
Seo-gu received excellent evaluations for distinctive policies such as the monthly climate action project under the theme “Impressed by Carbon Reduction in Seo-gu,” an image exhibition using discarded banners, and fostering a culture of carbon neutrality practice in cooperation with village communities.
Mayor Kim I-gang of Seo-gu said, “Seo-gu will continue to discover customized carbon neutrality specialized projects and strive to realize Green Seo-gu as the number one place for climate crisis response.”
Meanwhile, Seo-gu has stood out in responding to climate change and promoting carbon neutrality, winning awards such as the Excellence Award at the 2022 Korea Green Climate Awards and Healthy City Awards contest this year.
