SK Siltron Receives Minister of Environment Award for Excellence in Green Finance
Selected as an Outstanding Company for Green Bond Issuance
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] On the 13th, at the ‘2022 Green Finance Excellent Companies Awards Ceremony’ hosted by the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, SK Siltron received the Minister of Environment Award as an excellent company in green bond issuance.
In February this year, SK Siltron issued a 5-year green bond (interest rate 3.715%) in full for the purpose of expanding production facilities for SiC (Silicon Carbide) wafers, a core material for power semiconductors used in electric vehicles. Accordingly, SK Siltron was selected as the recipient of the Minister of Environment Award in recognition of the environmental contribution effect of SiC wafers and its systematic ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management system.
At the time of issuance, SiC wafers were clearly recognized to meet the eligibility criteria for green finance projects and management systems in power semiconductor production, earning the highest comprehensive score (GB1) from Korea Credit Rating. SK Siltron is also making thorough efforts in managing green bond procurement funds by establishing regulations to separately manage the use and balance of funds raised for ESG management purposes.
