Assemblyman Seodongyong Selected as Excellent Member of the Democratic Party for 3 Consecutive Years in the National Assembly Audit
Leading Policy Audit Raising Issues on University Teaching Assistant Treatment Improvement, Public Safety, and Livelihood Matters
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Seo Dong-yong, a member of the National Assembly's Education Committee (Chairman of the Democratic Party's Special Education Committee, Suncheon-Gwangyang-Gokseong-Gurye District), was selected as an 'Outstanding Member of the Democratic Party for the 2022 National Assembly Inspection.' With this, Seo was selected as an outstanding member for three consecutive years in 2020, 2021, and 2022.
During this year's Education Committee inspection, Seo Dong-yong was the first to raise suspicions of forgery and plagiarism by discovering two new papers authored by First Lady Kim Geon-hee.
He also revealed that the so-called 'Member Retention' paper, which had been suspected of plagiarism, was a forged paper copied from news articles and prior research data, urging universities and academic organizations to take responsible attitudes and conduct investigations.
In addition, he led the policy inspection by raising issues such as ▲ urgent measures for lung cancer occurrence among school meal workers ▲ the need to increase unit prices for food costs in elementary, middle, and high school meals ▲ inspection of school commuting routes near construction sites ▲ increase in long-term unexcused absences after COVID-19 ▲ shortage of personnel at national university hospitals ▲ expansion of support for adolescent parents ▲ follow-up measures after the death of a cleaning worker at Seoul National University ▲ and improvement of university teaching assistant treatment, addressing public safety and livelihood issues.
Seo also published a policy report titled ‘Reflecting on 10 Years of Seoul National University’s Incorporation,’ pointing out issues such as opaque accounting and management after incorporation, unreasonable treatment of Seoul National University members, and inefficient university operation structures, while proposing alternatives.
Seo Dong-yong said, “I am pleased and grateful to be selected as an outstanding member for three consecutive years, and I will take this as a sign to devote myself to legislative activities and carefully examine livelihood and policy issues,” adding, “This was the first National Assembly inspection conducted as the opposition party, which monitored the government while taking care of the people’s livelihood, from raising suspicions of forgery in First Lady Kim Geon-hee’s papers to addressing lung cancer issues among school meal workers.”
He continued, “I will not stop at raising issues but will follow through with subsequent measures such as revising laws and improving systems.”
