On the 9th, the Criminal Division 1 of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Sanghyun) indicted three people on charges of violating the Information and Communications Network Act (distribution of obscene materials).
They are accused of posting obscene and sexually insulting content along with photos of the Itaewon tragedy victims on the internet from October 30 to last month’s 1st. Previously, the prosecution had brought to trial four cases related to secondary damage against the Itaewon victims.

The prosecution stated, “(These cases) are anti-human rights crimes that seriously infringe on the honor and dignity of the victims and cause deep wounds to the bereaved families, survivors, and rescue participants,” adding, “We will strictly handle similar crimes in the future to ensure that ‘punishment commensurate with the crime’ is carried out.”
