At the main award ceremony held at the Citizen Hall of Changwon City Hall, artist Park Bong-gi received the Grand Prize, and artist Kim Hak-il received the Creative Award.
Grand Prize winner Park works with nature as his material, showing the cycle and breath of the great outdoors. He is interested in fallen trees, stones, soil, rice straw, or items discarded by civilization, selecting materials by exploring their physical properties and the temporality they possess. In the creative process, he directly engages with the body and nature?touching, refining, stacking, and weaving materials?long communicating with nature and embodying that value in his forms.
Creative Award winner Kim, a Korean painting major, has developed Korean painting in a modern way and received high praise from art experts both domestically and internationally. Recently, at the 2022 KIAF held together with Frieze at COEX in Seoul, he attracted significant attention from art professionals worldwide.
