He received the highest evaluation for his paper titled ‘Numerical Evaluation of Fish Resource Quantity and Distribution Estimation Method Using eDNA’ at the presentation contest held recently alongside the 2022 Korean Society of Marine Environment and Energy Autumn Conference and General Assembly at Songdo Convensia, Incheon.
This paper was recognized for its research achievement in quantitatively evaluating fish resource estimation methods using eDNA. eDNA refers to environmental DNA, genetic material of organisms collected from various environments such as water, soil, and air.
Doctoral student Park Seongsik conducted an accuracy evaluation of fish resource quantity and spatial distribution estimation according to the number of eDNA samples targeting horse mackerel in Jinhae Bay.
The research results showed that using eDNA, fish resource quantity could be estimated with high reproducibility, while spatial distribution estimation showed limitations by providing meaningful estimates only under certain conditions.
