"Precious Fruits, Delivered by Airplane" Emart Expands Unique Fruit Selection
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Emart announced on the 6th that it will expand its range of exotic fruits to attract customers.
Emart will hold a "Sweet and Tangy Mango Week" for one week starting from the 8th. Australian 'Calypso Mango' will be offered at 11,980 KRW with a 3,000 KRW discount when using Shinsegae points. Calypso Mango, first introduced by Emart last month, is a rare variety in Korea with small seeds and thin skin, providing more edible flesh. It also has a high sugar content and firm flesh, offering a soft yet chewy texture.
Considering the thin skin and fast ripening characteristics of Calypso Mango, Emart chose air transportation, which delivers within three days, instead of sea transportation that takes over three weeks.
Emart plans to further expand its exotic fruit offerings as interest in unique varieties grows. In September, it introduced the premium blueberry variety 'Eureka' via air transport. According to Emart, Eureka blueberries are priced over 30% higher than regular blueberries but have become so popular that some stores have sold out. The ‘Red Kiwi,’ which has a higher sugar content than regular kiwi, is also reportedly receiving continuous reservations.
Riding on the popularity of these exotic varieties, Emart plans to offer more than 10 strawberry varieties this year, including Kingsberry and Mannyeonseol strawberries.
