Hampyeong Premium Tourist Destination Transforms into an 'Accessible Tourism Site'
Ministry of Culture and Korea Tourism Organization Secure Maximum Funding for 'Open Tourism Site Contest' Project
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Hampyeong-gun's premium tourist attractions are being transformed into 'barrier-free tourist spots' that are convenient for all visitors.
On the 30th, according to the county, three tourist sites in Hampyeong-gun were selected for the '2023 Open Tourist Site Development' contest project hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization.
The 'Open Tourist Site Development Project' aims to eliminate mobility inconveniences within tourist sites for vulnerable tourists such as people with disabilities, the elderly, families with infants and young children, and pregnant women, making tourism activities easy and convenient for all citizens.
The tourist sites selected in this contest are ▲ Hampyeong Expo Park ▲ Dolmeori Beach ▲ Hampyeong Natural Ecology Park.
These tourist sites will improve facilities and also enhance all aspects necessary for barrier-free tourism, including information, services, and content for tourism activities, with a total project budget of 1.5 billion KRW (750 million KRW in national funds), 500 million KRW each.
According to the Korea Tourism Organization DATA-LAB, Dolmeori Beach, the closest beach to Gwangju, along with Expo Park and Natural Ecology Park, are representative tourist destinations in Hampyeong, attracting 700,000 visitors annually.

A county official said, "We plan to systematically promote the project by receiving on-site consulting from the Korea Tourism Organization to make it a convenient and enjoyable tourist site for vulnerable tourists in Jeonnam and Gwangju areas who have difficulty with long-distance travel."
