‘Pachinko’ Wins Best Picture at the Gotham Awards in the US
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] Apple TV+ series "Pachinko" was recognized for its artistic merit by winning the trophy in the "Breakthrough Series ? Long Form (40 minutes or more)" category at the 23rd Annual Gotham Awards held on the 28th (local time) in New York, USA.
Lead actor Kim Min-ha was nominated for the "Outstanding Performance in a New Series," the top acting award in the new series category, but did not win.
"Pachinko" is based on the New York Times bestseller of the same name by author Min Jin Lee. The story begins with a forbidden love and depicts an unforgettable chronicle of war and peace, love and separation, victory and judgment across Korea, Japan, and the United States. Kim Min-ha drew attention for portraying the young version of the protagonist Sunja, with Youn Yuh-jung, Lee Min-ho, and Kim Sang-hyun also delivering strong performances. Season 1, released in the first half of the year, was praised for dramatically expressing a vast narrative set against real historical events, and Season 2 is in production.
