"'Student Satisfaction' is the Foundation of University Survival!" ... Heo Nam-sik Inaugurated as the 9th President of Silla University
President Heo Nam-sik, the 9th president of Silla University, is delivering his inaugural address.
View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Silla University held the inauguration ceremony of its 9th President, Heo Nam-sik, at 10 a.m. on the 25th in the main auditorium of the Future Aviation Convergence Hall on campus.
The event was attended by key figures including Park Hyung-joon, Mayor of Busan; Ha Yun-su, Superintendent of Busan Education Office; Jang In-hwa, Chairman of Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Choi Soon-hee, President of the General Alumni Association; Kim Dae-sik, President of Gyeongnam Information College; as well as Chairman Park Eon-pyo, former presidents, and about 400 members of the university community.
The inauguration ceremony proceeded with the handing over of the university flag, introduction of career history and inaugural address, congratulatory speeches and messages from distinguished guests, screening of support videos, a congratulatory performance by the Department of Music’s vocal ensemble, and commemorative photo sessions.
During the ceremony, a donation event was also held where Chairman Shin Jeong-taek of Seun Steel, Chairman Yang Jae-saeng of Eunsan Shipping & Aviation, CEO Kim Jeong-gi of Kyungdong Construction, and Chairman Park Soo-kwan of YC Tech each donated 100 million KRW, contributing a total of 500 million KRW to the university’s development fund aimed at nurturing talent and expanding educational infrastructure at Silla University.
In his inaugural address, President Heo Nam-sik declared the new vision of Silla University as a “leading private university in the Southeast region” and requested active cooperation from major institutional leaders and university members.
President Heo stated, “To leap forward as a ‘strong university,’ we must promote academic system reforms and streamline university administrative organizations in response to changing times, and to foster ‘competitive talent,’ the university should pursue internationalization and strengthen educational services.”
He added, “Above all, ‘student satisfaction’ is fundamental to the university’s survival,” emphasizing, “We must transform into a university that students seek out by innovating student-centered educational environments and improving campus conditions.”
He continued, “We will pursue an ‘open university’ that communicates with each other and strengthen the unity of all members including faculty, external networks, and alumni to widely promote the university’s brand.”
President Heo expressed strong determination, saying, “With abundant educational infrastructure and a differentiated growth strategy based on specialization unique to Silla University, I will devote my efforts to seeking practical ways for the development strategy of Busan’s western region and Silla University’s capabilities to coexist and prosper.”
President Heo graduated from Masan High School, Korea University, and Seoul National University Graduate School of Public Administration. He holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration from Kyungsung University and an honorary Doctorate in Business Administration from Pusan National University.

He also served as the 33rd to 35th Mayor of Busan, and has been actively engaged in external activities as Chairman of the National Governors Association, Distinguished Professor at Dong-A University, and Chairman of the National Balanced Development Committee.
