[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jung-wan] The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced on the 25th that it inspected 5,016 restaurants that prepare and deliver or sell chicken in collaboration with local governments, and identified 19 establishments violating the Food Sanitation Act, requesting administrative actions from the relevant authorities.
This inspection was conducted from the 7th to the 11th in cooperation with 17 local governments. It is part of an ongoing focused inspection since last year targeting restaurants delivering highly consumed items to strengthen hygiene and safety in delivery food establishments.
The inspection targeted 5,016 chicken delivery restaurants registered on delivery applications that had no inspection history or had administrative sanctions within the past three years. The main violations detected were △ failure to conduct health examinations at 11 locations △ violation of hygienic handling standards at 4 locations △ unauthorized demolition of business facilities at 3 locations △ failure to wear hygiene caps at 1 location.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety plans to have the relevant authorities impose administrative measures on the detected establishments and re-inspect these businesses within six months to verify improvements.
Additionally, alongside this inspection, 307 chicken samples prepared and sold at restaurants were collected and tested for food poisoning bacteria. Of the 242 samples tested so far, all were deemed compliant. The remaining 65 samples under examination will be addressed according to the results.
