Earlier this month, the company won the construction contract for four new high-speed patrol boats (Geomdoksuri-B Batch-II) Nos. 1 to 4, commissioned by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration.
After being selected as the top qualified bidder in the initial tender and undergoing the evaluation process, the contract worth a total of 212 billion KRW was signed with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration on the 24th.
With this, HJ Heavy Industries has completed the construction of 16 new high-speed patrol boats (Geomdoksuri-B Batch-I) for the Navy and has further enhanced its reputation by securing four vessels in the follow-up Batch-II project. Their unmatched technological expertise in the combat ship sector has been consecutively recognized.
The new high-speed patrol boat project is a 200-ton class vessel construction initiative aimed at replacing the Navy’s Chamsuri-class patrol boats, which played a key role in the First and Second Battle of Yeonpyeong in 1999 and 2002.
By applying high-performance guided rockets, remote firing control systems, electronic warfare equipment, and stealth construction techniques, the firepower and maneuverability have been significantly improved compared to the existing Chamsuri patrol boats. Additionally, detection, defense capabilities, and mission performance have been greatly enhanced, earning recognition as next-generation combat vessels.
Starting with the country’s first high-speed patrol boat, the ‘Haksaengho’ in 1972, HJ Heavy Industries has set milestones in the history of domestic high-speed patrol boats by constructing around 100 of the Navy’s main Chamsuri-class patrol boats. Subsequently, they have taken charge of building eight next-generation guided missile fast attack crafts and 20 next-generation high-speed patrol boats, achieving monumental results in the domestic high-speed naval vessel sector.
HJ Heavy Industries plans to build the new Geomdoksuri high-speed patrol boats, inheriting the Chamsuri name, with improved equipment and enhanced performance so that they can be deployed as immediate response forces for NLL defense and coastal protection, aiming for ‘perfection’ in construction.
