Starbucks Opens 4th Community Store... "A Store for Mutual Growth with the Local Community"
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Starbucks Korea announced on the 23rd that it has converted the Starbucks Jeokseon store in Jongno-gu, Seoul, into its 4th Community Store, expanding its community partnership stores.
On the same day, Starbucks held an opening ceremony for the 4th Community Store at the Jeokseon store, attended by CEO Son Jeonghyun and Han Chanhee, Chairman of the Beautiful Foundation.
CEO Son said, "Through the 4th Community Store, we will continue various support activities to maintain social interest and encouragement for youth preparing for independence," adding, "We will strive to make this store a space where young people can nurture their dreams for the future and grow together with the local community."
The Starbucks Community Store is a profit-sharing type store where 300 KRW from every item sold is accumulated and donated in partnership with related NGOs to bring about positive changes in the local community. It is Starbucks' unique social contribution program.
The 4th Community Store operates with the purpose of improving awareness of youth preparing for independence and providing stable and systematic support, as social interest and calls for support alternatives for these youth continue to grow.
Since January 2020, Starbucks has signed an agreement with the Beautiful Foundation to support youth preparing for independence, running the ‘Youth Independence Settlement Dream Support Project’ which offers various self-development opportunities to non-college-bound youth preparing for independence to help them enter society stably.
Starbucks plans to actively strengthen employment support for youth preparing for independence by expanding the existing barista job experience program into a barista recruitment-linked activity. Through this, not only youth who have completed the barista job experience training course but also those preparing for independence who wish to become baristas will have expanded opportunities to work as Starbucks baristas after a separate selection process.
