Committed Over 10 Sexual Violence Crimes Against Minors... 5 Times Sentenced to Prison
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gyehwa, Intern] A man in his 30s, who was wearing an electronic ankle bracelet after committing multiple sex crimes against minors, was sentenced to prison again for attempting to sexually molest a 10-year-old girl.
On the 22nd, the Criminal Division 11 of Gwangju District Court (Presiding Judge Park Hyunsoo) announced that it sentenced company employee A (39) to two years in prison on charges of attempted sexual molestation. The court also ordered A to be banned from employment at child and youth-related institutions and disability-related institutions for 10 years each, as well as to wear a location tracking electronic device.
A was charged with luring B (10) to sexually molest her in front of a convenience store in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, at around 12:51 p.m. on August 5. He approached the victim child, asked her age, and then chased her for about 60 meters saying, "Do you have a boyfriend? I'll buy you ice cream. Let's go to your house." Fortunately, the victim refused A's demands and fled to a nearby community child center.
A had been sentenced to three years in prison in 2015 for forcibly molesting a child or adolescent and had committed more than 10 sex crimes against minors, resulting in the attachment of a location tracking electronic device. Most of the victims of A's sex crimes were minors between the ages of 7 and 16.

The court stated, "He has a history of being sentenced to prison five times for sex crimes against minors. Despite repeated punishments, the risk of reoffending remains high," and added, "The young victim likely suffered significant psychological trauma from this crime." The court also explained the sentencing rationale, saying, "Considering that the crime fortunately ended in an attempt, the defendant's borderline intellectual functioning, and all sentencing factors including the means and consequences of the crime comprehensively."
