This decision was made because the planned Forest Expo area faces a high risk of large forest fires every spring and various safety concerns due to the local strong wind called 'Yangganjipung.' Additionally, this year, the forest fire caution period was extended from May 15 to June 19 due to an increase in large forest fires.
Recently, the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Committee of the Gangwon Provincial Council also suggested adjusting the timing of the Forest Expo to autumn, considering the spring risks and the connection with autumn foliage visitors and local festivals.
The organizing committee considered safety issues for the many tourists expected at the Forest Expo and, after consulting with the four cities and counties in the hosting area and the Korea Forest Service, made the final decision to postpone the event at the board meeting on the 18th.
