View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Mokpo Maritime Police Station announced on the 18th that it will conduct joint inspections with related organizations targeting fishing vessels in the jurisdiction to prevent maritime accidents due to increased fishing activities in autumn and winter and adverse weather conditions.
The inspection will be conducted from the 17th to the 30th, with a joint inspection team formed together with local governments, Mokpo Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office, Mokpo branch of the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority, and the Fisheries Cooperative, carrying out inspections by sector according to the fishing vessel safety checklist.
The main inspection items include ▲ fire-prone factors such as engines and electrical systems ▲ operation status of the Vessel Positioning System (V-pass) ▲ navigation and engine equipment status ▲ presence of lifebuoys and life jackets, covering all compliance matters necessary for safe navigation.
In addition, to prevent fires, the status of fire extinguishers and firefighting equipment, as well as emergency response procedures, will be promoted and guided simultaneously.

A Mokpo Maritime Police official stated, “Autumn and winter are periods when many casualties occur due to various maritime accidents, so we are focusing on inspecting vulnerable points,” and added, “Especially due to frequent adverse weather changes, situations change constantly, increasing the risk of maritime accidents, so fishery workers need to exercise special caution regarding this.”
