View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Hanjin announced on the 18th that it has launched the eco-friendly packaging material "Green Waffle," which was conceptualized based on ideas directly proposed by Cho Hyun-min, President of Future Growth Strategy and Marketing, to protect the environment through the development and introduction of eco-friendly packaging materials.
"Green Waffle" aims to be an eco-friendly cushioning material capable of safely packaging products inside delivery boxes without damage in any environment. It was completed under the leadership of President Cho Hyun-min through regular meetings involving Hanjin and partner company employees.
It is made from 100% recyclable eco-friendly paper instead of plastic film. It features a simple design that allows packaging assembly without the use of separate tape. It is designed in a honeycomb shape that securely fixes products inside the delivery box to prevent shaking.
The name "Green Waffle" was also decided through an idea contest and survey among Hanjin employees. Combining "Green," reflecting environmental consciousness, and "Waffle," representing the dense appearance that shows the packaging material’s shock-absorbing stability, the name was chosen to make it easy for customers to recognize the product.
Since 2020, Hanjin has collaborated with Eco Life Packaging, a company producing eco-friendly delivery boxes that do not require tape, to promote the spread of the "Nalkae Box." The two companies have jointly filed a patent for the manufacturing technology of "Green Waffle."
Currently, the "Green On Hanjin" eco-friendly companion platform, which allows small business owners and solo entrepreneurs to participate in eco-friendly activities, and the "Nalkae Box" website operated by Eco Life Packaging offer the "Nalkae Box and Green Waffle set" for purchase.
The first round of recruiting 100 participants for the Green Waffle trial group, which began on the 1st, was closed early due to strong interest from many consumers and corporate customers. The second round of recruiting 100 participants is scheduled to begin on December 1.
