Governor Kim Dong-yeon: "Minimizing Standing Discomfort on Metropolitan Buses... 88 Additional Vehicles Deployed"
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, announced that he will do his best to minimize inconvenience to residents as standing boarding on metropolitan buses will be suspended starting from the 18th.
On the early morning of the 18th, Governor Kim posted on Facebook titled "Suspension of Standing Boarding on Metropolitan Buses, Minimizing Inconvenience to Residents," stating, "Starting today, 14 bus companies affiliated with KD Transportation Group will completely suspend standing boarding," expressing concern that "146 routes, accounting for 46% of all metropolitan bus routes in the Gyeonggi area, are affected."
He added, "Gyeonggi Province is guiding the suspension of standing boarding and alternative routes through the 'Gyeonggi Bus Information App' and 'Bus Stop Notices' to minimize passenger confusion."
He also said, "Staff will be assigned at major bus stops to provide on-site guidance," promising, "Starting today, 20 vehicles including charter buses and reserve vehicles will be deployed, and the 68 vehicles planned to be added according to the 'Metropolitan Bus Standing Boarding Measures' established in September will be fully deployed by early next year."

Governor Kim further stated, "We have agreed to establish a permanent 'Metropolitan Area Bus Standing Boarding Response Council' with the government and metropolitan local governments to continuously monitor passenger inconvenience and congestion and jointly respond to the standing boarding issue," adding, "Although many inconveniences are expected for citizens commuting between Gyeonggi Province, Seoul, and Incheon due to the suspension of standing boarding on metropolitan buses, Gyeonggi Province will actively respond using all available means for the safety and convenience of residents."
