Second Meeting of Itaewon Disaster Crowd Accident Task Force Held... Minister Lee Sang-min Presides
Focused Discussion on On-Site Response and Collaboration System for Crowd Accident Prevention
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 17th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety held the 2nd meeting of the "Special Task Force (TF) for Establishing Safety Management Measures to Prevent Multi-Crowd Accidents" related to the Itaewon incident.
Presided over by Minister Lee Sang-min of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, this meeting included related ministries such as the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, National Police Agency, and National Fire Agency, as well as Seoul City, Yongsan District, private experts, and safety officials from multi-crowd facilities in the sports and transportation sectors to discuss the causes of the Itaewon incident and measures to prevent recurrence.
In his opening remarks, Minister Lee said, "I will listen to the points regarding the lack of a scientific crowd density monitoring system, issues with the non-integration of emergency rescue systems, and insufficient collaboration related to the dispatch of disaster medical support teams," adding, "I will also hear from those directly managing crowds on-site at venues such as concert halls and subways about the current problems and difficulties in crowd management."
At this meeting, the progress of tasks identified by each ministry at the first meeting on the 2nd and the ministry-specific tasks related to crowd accidents reported at the national safety system inspection meeting presided over by the President on the 7th will be the main focus, along with listening to voices from the field.
