The Steel Association Successfully Completes Steel ESG Research Group Activities
A total of 96 participants from 17 companies over 4 sessions
Promoting ESG Awareness and Creating Networking Opportunities
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] The steel industry’s 2022 activities of the Steel ESG Research Group, established to promote ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) culture through customized practical training, have successfully concluded.
The Korea Iron & Steel Association held the 4th Steel ESG Research Group meeting on the 17th at Ferrum Tower in Euljiro, Seoul, sharing knowledge and cases related to ESG due diligence.
The Steel ESG Research Group was created to help the steel industry effectively respond to the rapidly spreading ESG management issues through practical training. Since its launch on May 26, it has held four sessions covering ESG promotion status and plans (1st), ESG vision and strategy establishment, management system building process (2nd), basic principles and key tasks of ESG management (3rd), and in this 4th session, presentations and discussions on ESG due diligence methods were conducted.
The Steel Association stated that the operation of this research group greatly helped the steel industry prepare for ESG management, with a total of 96 participants from 17 companies including POSCO, Hyundai Steel, and Dongkuk Steel, making the event highly successful.
Furthermore, through presentations and discussions by ESG experts over the four sessions, participants learned comprehensively about ESG. Leading companies actively promoting ESG activities such as POSCO and Hyundai Steel participated, sharing vivid ESG cases and experiences, which significantly aided the steel industry’s adoption of ESG management systems.
Senior Manager Oh Gi-seop of Aju Steel said, "Participating in the Steel ESG Research Group was very helpful for our company’s ESG management preparation and for exchanging information through joint learning with peers in the same industry."
Meanwhile, the Steel Association plans to continue operating the research group next year, reflecting members’ opinions to further spread and quickly establish ESG in the steel industry, supporting the activation of ESG management within the sector.
