Ioniq 6 Achieves Highest Safety Rating in European Safety Assessment
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Hyundai Motor Company's dedicated electric vehicle brand Ioniq's second model, the Ioniq 6, has received the highest rating from the European New Car Assessment Programme.
Hyundai Motor announced on the 17th that the Ioniq 6, which was unveiled worldwide for the first time in July, earned the top five-star rating in Euro NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme), Europe's new car safety evaluation program.
Following last year's Ioniq 5 receiving five stars from Euro NCAP, the Ioniq 6's top rating means that Hyundai's entire dedicated electric vehicle lineup has been honored with five stars.
Euro NCAP testing began in 1997 and is a European new car evaluation program. It conducts safety verification tests on cars sold in Europe and publishes the results annually.
In this evaluation, the Ioniq 6 achieved the highest rating in the comprehensive assessment of four categories: adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, pedestrian protection, and safety assist systems, proving its outstanding safety.
Euro NCAP stated that the Ioniq 6 maintained a safe passenger compartment during frontal and side collision tests, effectively protecting the major body parts of adult and child occupants. It also mentioned that the vehicle is equipped with an 'automatic airbag deployment notification' system that alerts emergency rescue centers automatically when airbags deploy, and a 'multi-collision automatic braking system' that prevents secondary accidents after a collision.
Additionally, advanced safety driving assist systems such as forward collision avoidance assist provide the highest level of safety and convenience on the road.
The robust body structure, combined with the airbag system protecting passengers and various advanced safety assist features, led to the achievement of the highest safety rating.
Moreover, the Ioniq 6 is equipped with numerous advanced driving safety assist features, including Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), High Beam Assist (HBA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), Safe Exit Warning (SEW), and Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA).
Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Head of Product and Marketing at Hyundai Motor Europe, said, “This award proves that Hyundai is a leader in the field of future mobility and that our electric vehicle models are among the safest vehicles. Hyundai is committed to providing a high level of safety for both drivers and pedestrians.”
Following the previous Euro NCAP tests where Hyundai's Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and Genesis GV60 received five stars, the Ioniq 6 also recorded high safety ratings. This once again demonstrates the excellence of Hyundai Motor Group's dedicated electric vehicle platform, E-GMP.
In particular, the Ioniq 5 was recognized for its outstanding safety by receiving the highest rating in the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests, known as the world's most stringent evaluation.
