The Ministry of National Defense announced that the 9th Cyber Security Subcommittee Meeting of the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) will be held via video conference on the 16th and 17th. South Korea will co-chair the meeting together with Malaysia. The participants include the 10 ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries and the 'Plus' countries: South Korea, the United States, China, Japan, Russia, India, Australia, and New Zealand.
On the first day, to strengthen defense policy capabilities in the cyber field among member countries, a discussion on 'Challenges for Practical Cyber Training' will be led by South Korea. Lee Dong-hwa, the training team leader from the Korea Internet & Security Agency, will introduce the current status and policy direction of government cyber training, followed by presentations from member countries on their respective cyber training programs. Additionally, Malaysia, as a co-chair country, will present the 'Cyber Security Framework' containing the vision and practical directions for cyber cooperation among participants.
Especially on the 17th, to enhance the technical capabilities of member countries, a remote cyber simulation training will be held under the leadership of the South Korean Ministry of National Defense. This training involves two member countries forming one team to jointly solve problems related to the rapidly increasing cyber threats such as ransomware. The training will be conducted through malware analysis (reverse engineering) and Windows intrusion incident analysis (forensics). Not only the meeting but also the training will see participation from the United States, China, Russia, and others. This will be the first international cyber training involving these three countries together. Based on this remote training this year, an in-person training session is planned to be held in South Korea during the 11th meeting scheduled for the second half of next year.
The Ministry of National Defense expressed expectations that "the training will contribute to narrowing the gap in cyber response capabilities among member countries."
