Korean Air: "US to Continue Merger Review"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] As the U.S. is conducting a merger review of Korean Air and Asiana Airlines, it appears that more time will be needed before the results are announced.
Korean Air announced on the 16th that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), the U.S. competition authority, has decided to continue the merger review.
A Korean Air official stated, "We understand that the U.S. competition authority has decided to take more time to review the merger-related matters between Korean Air and Asiana Airlines," adding, "Accordingly, the review will proceed with additional time."
The U.S. Department of Justice conducted interviews related to the main merger review starting in October, meeting with Korean Air executives and responsible personnel. They also reviewed the post-merger remedies proposed by the company.

Korean Air explained, "Given the significance of the U.S. merger review and that the related interviews were completed last week, it is judged that more time is needed for review." They added, "Since merger reviews in other countries are also underway, there is no urgent reason to proceed hastily, so we believe the process will continue with sufficient time."
