On the 15th, Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, met with Tongyeong citizens and expressed his commitment to revitalizing tourism on the southern coast.
About 220 Tongyeong citizens gathered at Tongyeong City Hall for the ‘Dialogue with Residents’ event.
On this day, Governor Park listened attentively to questions and suggestions ranging from daily inconveniences and safety complaints to city administration issues, and contemplated solutions together.
Addressing the residents, Governor Park emphasized, “To promote the development of Gyeongnam and create jobs for young people, we must continue to strengthen the long-term superiority of the core manufacturing industry and grow the service industry utilizing tourism resources unique to Gyeongnam.”
He added, “We will develop projects and implement policies that leverage the unique characteristics and strengths of the region, including Tongyeong’s distinctive tourism resources.”
To this end, he pledged support for improving regional accessibility and expanding Tongyeong’s tourism infrastructure through ▲ the construction of a U-shaped road network including the Jungbu Inland Railway ▲ the Southern Coast Island Highway and the establishment of a complex marine leisure tourism city.
He also stated, “Through the successful promotion of the seafood food industry cluster and the full recovery of the local shipbuilding industry, Tongyeong will harmoniously develop tourism, fisheries, and shipbuilding industries, and be reborn as a young and vibrant maritime city.”
Governor Park also expressed his determination to realize the vision of the 8th-term provincial administration.
He said, “A vibrant Gyeongnam will revitalize the regional economy through investment and corporate attraction, and a happy citizenry will be created by alleviating polarization, making an administration where all residents can equally feel happiness.”
He added, “Gyeongnam is recovering its nuclear power and shipbuilding industries, and the local defense industry, a key industry, is contributing greatly to regional development through successive overseas orders. Tongyeong will be an opportunity to propel Gyeongnam’s new leap forward through shipbuilding and tourism industries, and as someone from Tongyeong, I will do my best for the city’s development.”
On this day, Cheon Young-gi, Mayor of Tongyeong, explained the city’s major issues to Governor Park, including ▲ designation of an investment-leading district for hub development ▲ establishment of a seafood food cluster.
He also requested active provincial support for ▲ the Tongyeong Port Tower Bridge construction project ▲ the Gangguan waterfront landscape improvement project.
According to Gyeongnam Province, Governor Park visited Tongyeong for the sixth time following visits to Sancheong, Hadong, Yangsan in August, Jinju in September, and Geochang in October.
