1 Million Audience Movie Missing in October Theaters

According to the Korean Film Council's report on the Korean film industry released on the 15th, the total box office revenue in October decreased by 39.6%, or 40.3 billion KRW, compared to the previous month, and the number of moviegoers decreased by 37.1%, or 3.66 million. No film released in October surpassed 10 billion KRW in revenue or 1 million in audience numbers.
With the release of Korean films such as "Life is Beautiful" and "Honest Candidate 2," both box office revenue and audience numbers increased compared to October last year. The total box office revenue increased by 21.1%, or 10.7 billion KRW, compared to the same month last year, and the number of moviegoers increased by 19.4%, or 1.01 million. Korean film revenue was 37.7 billion KRW, which is a 58.9%, or 54 billion KRW, decrease compared to the previous month, but an increase of 400.1%, or 30.2 billion KRW, compared to the same month last year. The number of moviegoers was 3.94 million, down 56.1%, or 5.05 million, from the previous month, but up 372.2%, or 3.11 million, compared to the same month last year.
Foreign film revenue in October was 23.8 billion KRW, up 134.1%, or 13.6 billion KRW, from the previous month, but down 45.0%, or 19.5 billion KRW, compared to the same month last year. The number of moviegoers was 2.26 million, up 158.4%, or 1.38 million, from the previous month, but down 48.2%, or 2.1 million, compared to the same month last year.
"Confidential Assignment 2: International," distributed by CJ ENM, attracted 1.11 million viewers and earned 10.8 billion KRW, ranking first in October box office and maintaining the top spot for two consecutive months. The cumulative audience reached 6.95 million, with total revenue of 70.7 billion KRW. Lotte Entertainment's "Life is Beautiful" attracted 930,000 viewers and earned 8.7 billion KRW, ranking second, with cumulative revenue reaching 10.1 billion KRW as of October.
