Jeju Fire Headquarters Conducts Disaster Preparedness Rescue Drill at Dongmun Market
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters (Chief Park Geun-oh) and Jeju Fire Station (Chief Go Jae-woo) announced on the 15th that they conducted an unannounced emergency rescue drill on the 14th around Dongmun Market to establish a rapid response system in the event of a large-scale disaster and to strengthen joint capabilities with related organizations.
This drill assumed a complex disaster situation where an earthquake occurred around Dongmun Market in Jeju City, causing an unexplained fire and partial building collapse, resulting in multiple casualties. The focus was on improving rapid disaster response capabilities by assigning unannounced drill scenarios.
More than 150 personnel from eight organizations and groups, including fire departments, local governments, autonomous police, Dongmun Market Merchants Association, and volunteer fire brigades, along with 18 pieces of equipment, were mobilized. The drill proceeded from initial response activities by the self-defense fire brigade to the phased activation of the emergency rescue control team, followed by rapid response, recovery, and restoration through cooperation with related organizations.
Park Geun-oh, Chief of the Fire Safety Headquarters, stated, “To prepare for various complex disasters, we will continuously conduct realistic drills involving related organizations to strengthen large-scale disaster response capabilities and establish a cooperative emergency rescue system.”
