Pianist Francois Frederic Gui Collaborates with Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra for Beethoven's 'Emperor' Concerto
Beethoven Specialist Presents Beethoven's "Emperor" with Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] "Beethoven is the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end of my life as a musician."
French pianist Fran?ois-Fr?d?ric Guy, known as a Beethoven specialist, will perform Piano Concerto No. 5, "Emperor," with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra at Lotte Concert Hall on the 17th and 18th. The conductor is German maestro Mark Albrecht, who last collaborated with the Seoul Philharmonic in 2018 and returns after four years.
Fran?ois-Fr?d?ric Guy is recognized as a top performer of Beethoven’s music, having released a total of 14 Beethoven albums, including complete performances of all 32 Beethoven piano sonatas, all 5 piano concertos, and the complete sonatas for cello and piano.
German conductor Mark Albrecht, stepping onto the podium, will present Brahms’ Piano Quartet No. 1 in the orchestral arrangement by Schoenberg with the Seoul Philharmonic.
In the first half, Fran?ois-Fr?d?ric Guy will perform the "Emperor" concerto. Despite being a concerto, this piece evokes the scale of a symphony. The first movement’s brilliant piano chords recall a grand epic drama. The second movement is slow but features a beautiful melody that leaves a strong impression. The final third movement heightens tension to the maximum, concluding with a powerful and fast-paced performance.
In the second half, Brahms’ Piano Quartet No. 1 will be presented in Schoenberg’s orchestral arrangement. Originally composed for piano, violin, viola, and cello, Schoenberg arranged it while striving to preserve Brahms’ original musical intent as much as possible. Particularly in the fourth movement, the "Gypsy Rondo," passionate and lively rhythms evoke the dance of the Gypsies, creating a cheerful melody.
