View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] KT announced on the 14th that it will jointly promote the infrastructure-based autonomous driving (ATI) business with Seoul Robotics, a 3D LiDAR autonomous driving software specialist.
Seoul Robotics is a startup that possesses software technology that recognizes and analyzes 3D LiDAR images, considered the eyes of autonomous driving, based on artificial intelligence (AI). The two companies signed a business agreement at the KT Songpa building located in Songpa-gu, Seoul, with Choi Kang-rim, Head of KT AI Mobility Business Division (Executive Director), and Lee Han-bin, CEO of Seoul Robotics, in attendance.
KT and Seoul Robotics will cooperate to revitalize the ATI market. They plan to gradually proceed with collaborative projects such as ATI business targeting domestic and international vehicle OEMs, autonomous valet parking (AVP) pilot projects, and the development of new business models in the autonomous driving field.
Typical autonomous driving only utilizes sensors and software embedded in the vehicle. In contrast, ATI builds LiDAR sensors that recognize moving objects with laser beams and computers in external facilities including automobile manufacturing plants to identify vehicle locations and enable remote autonomous driving. Utilizing this makes level 5 autonomous driving, a system that operates vehicles without driver intervention in all areas, possible.
Meanwhile, through this collaboration, KT plans to jointly develop ATI solutions linked with mobile edge computing (5G MEC) and continuously expand domestic and international businesses.
