View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] SK Telecom is launching a customer participation digital campaign to advance its visual assistance artificial intelligence (AI) service that provides voice descriptions of people, text, objects, colors, and more for visually impaired individuals who cannot see directly with their eyes.
On the 14th, SKT announced that it will support the learning of ‘Sullivan Plus,’ a visual assistance AI developed by the social venture TwoArt, based on photos collected through the social network service (SNS) campaign called the ‘Good One Photo Challenge.’ Sullivan Plus is the only AI-based visual assistance voice guidance application (app) in Korea that helps visually impaired and low-vision users easily recognize people, text, objects, colors, and more through their smartphone cameras.
SKT and TwoArt expect that the positive influence of social members through this campaign will provide great help to neighbors who need to use visual assistance services. Descriptions of information about surrounding objects or features such as colors in daily life serve as a foundation for visually impaired people to engage in more social activities and challenges.
To participate in the ‘Good One Photo Challenge,’ individuals can take photos of everyday objects and people and upload them to their SNS accounts with the hashtags ‘#CodenameSullivan’ and ‘#GoodOnePhotoChallenge.’ Participants can join multiple times each week according to themes presented on SKT’s Instagram and can also nominate others to participate.
SKT and TwoArt plan to select images suitable for AI learning from the donated photos through this challenge and improve the service with advice from visually impaired users. SKT also released the campaign video ‘Codename: Sullivan Plus’ on its YouTube channel on the same day (14th). Actor Lee Hak-joo appears as an AI situation room agent, depicting the process of AI identifying objects and calculating to deliver accurate information. A version with voice narration of the screen for visually impaired users was also separately released.
