View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Education has urged support for the movement of isolated examinees and other measures targeting education offices in the Seoul and Gyeonggi regions, where half of the examinees are gathered, ahead of the 2023 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) scheduled for the 17th.
On the 13th, the Ministry of Education will hold a video conference chaired by the Vice Minister with education office heads from the Seoul and Gyeonggi regions at the Korea Educational Facilities Safety Institute.
During this meeting, they plan to confirm the cooperation system for the safe administration of the CSAT in the Seoul and Gyeonggi regions and discuss support plans for examinees subject to isolation.
Recently, COVID-19 cases have rebounded, with the number of student cases confirmed from the 1st to the 7th totaling 28,071. Student cases have been on the rise for four consecutive weeks.
Considering that 49.9% (253,388) of the total 508,030 CSAT applicants are from the Seoul and Gyeonggi regions, thorough preparations will be urged to support the attendance and movement of isolated examinees in these areas.
The Ministry of Education has separated test sites for general examinees and those subject to isolation to prevent the spread of infectious diseases at CSAT venues. Examinees confirmed positive after the 11th can take the CSAT at separate test sites.
Since the 3rd, the Ministry of Education, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, and the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation have jointly formed a situation room to monitor the occurrence of isolated examinees, and local governments and metropolitan/provincial education offices are supporting the attendance of isolated examinees through on-site management teams.

Vice Minister Jang Sang-yoon stated, “With the CSAT approaching, we ask for your utmost efforts to ensure that examinees can take the exam in a safe environment with peace of mind. In the Seoul and Gyeonggi regions, where examinees are densely concentrated, education offices, education support offices, and local governments should collaborate to make every effort to facilitate the smooth attendance of isolated examinees.”
