According to Yonhap News on the 11th, Judge So Byeong-jin, head of the warrant division at the Incheon District Court, conducted a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant substantive examination) for Ms. A, who is accused of killing a direct ascendant, and issued an arrest warrant citing "risk of flight."
Ms. A is accused of secretly feeding a chemical liquid to her mother, Ms. B, in her 60s, at a villa in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, last September, resulting in her death. Earlier, Ms. B was found dead alone in the villa, where she lived without any cohabitants, around 6:46 p.m. on the 28th of the same month. It is known that Ms. B’s son, unable to contact his mother, visited the villa and discovered her body, then reported it to the police and 119 emergency services.
At the time of discovery, parts of Ms. B’s body were already decomposed. According to the autopsy results from the National Forensic Service, it is presumed that Ms. B died due to the chemical liquid remaining in her body.
The Gyeyang Police Station in Incheon conducted an investigation focusing on the possibility of homicide based on the autopsy results from the National Forensic Service. Subsequently, the police collected related evidence such as CCTV footage around Ms. B’s residence and records of chemical substance purchases. After confirming Ms. A’s involvement, she was urgently arrested on the afternoon of the 9th in Anyang-si, Gyeonggi-do.
According to the investigation, Ms. A committed the crime aiming to claim Ms. B’s life insurance money. Ms. A admitted to the charges, stating to the police, "I was experiencing financial difficulties and intended to inherit the life insurance money under my mother’s name."
Additionally, for a week after the crime, Ms. A responded to text messages from her younger brother sent to Ms. B’s phone, attempting to conceal the crime. Because of this, it is reported that Ms. B’s son was unaware of Ms. A’s criminal actions.
