Democrats Adopt Party Stance on People's Livelihood Bills Including Board of Audit and Inspection Act and Basic Pension Act
Unanimous Resolution at the Assembly Meeting
Daily Calls for Ruling Party to 'Join State Audit'
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] On the 10th, the opposition party held a party caucus before the plenary session and adopted four livelihood bills, including the Board of Audit and Inspection Act and the Basic Pension Act, as party positions. This was with the intention of not delaying the passage of livelihood legislation along with promoting a state audit to investigate the Itaewon disaster.
Lee Su-jin, the floor spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea, said in a back briefing immediately after the caucus, "In the closed meeting, Floor Leader Park Hong-geun proceeded with the party position adoption process," adding, "The first livelihood legislation bills?the Board of Audit and Inspection Act, the Basic Pension Act, the Stalking Punishment Act Victim Protection Act, and the Anti-Human Rights Act Special Measures on State Violence?were adopted as party positions without any dissent from the entire assembly."
Ahead of the plenary session that day, the opposition emphasized the promotion of a state audit during the caucus. Party leader Lee Jae-myung stated in his opening remarks, "As representatives of the people, the people's workers, we must rightfully hold accountable and uncover the causes of the great disaster that our people suffered as if there was no government," adding, "We will strive to clearly investigate the facts and firmly punish those responsible, including holding political responsibility."
Floor Leader Park Hong-geun also said, "The public is puzzled as to why no investigation has been conducted toward the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Presidential Office, which are the relevant authorities," adding, "This is the reason why a state audit on the Yongsan Itaewon disaster must be conducted."

He further stated, "Opposition to the state audit is a highly political claim. Ultimately, it is about stalling and saying not to do it," urging, "The People Power Party must respond to the people's mandate even now" and called for participation in promoting the state audit.
