White House: "ROK-US-Japan to Discuss North Korean Nuclear Issue at ASEAN on 13th"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] The White House announced on the 9th (local time) that U.S. President Joe Biden, who is embarking on a tour of Asia, will meet with South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to discuss measures to deter North Korea's nuclear threats.
The White House stated, "President Biden will meet with the leaders of South Korea and Japan on the 13th in Cambodia during his visit to Asia to attend the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and G20 (Group of Twenty) summits."
The leaders of South Korea, the U.S., and Japan are expected to seek ways to limit North Korea's capability to sustain its illegal ballistic missile and weapons of mass destruction (WMD) programs during this meeting.
President Biden and Prime Minister Kishida held a phone call on the morning of the 4th of last month, following North Korea's launch of a medium-range ballistic missile over the Japanese archipelago, strongly condemning North Korea's provocations.
Amid North Korea's repeated missile provocations and clear intentions for a seventh nuclear test, a senior U.S. official said in an interview with U.S. media last week that the U.S. holds leverage to persuade Russia and China not to support North Korea's nuclear test.

The official told U.S. media in an interview that while there is strong confidence that North Korea has been preparing since 2017, the exact timing remains unknown.
