[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] The abundant autumn harvest gathered from the vast loess fields of Ttangkkeut Haenam and the pristine sea of Ttangkkeut transforms into Haenam 8 Mi, welcoming tourists from across the country.

According to Haenam County on the 10th, the Haenam Minam (味南) Festival will be held for three days from the 11th to the 13th at Duryunsan Provincial Park in Haenam County.

Under the theme of a five-sense satisfying gourmet trip, this festival is expected to be an opportunity to experience Haenam’s delicious foods represented by Haenam 8 Mi all in one place.

Haenam 8 Mi consists of barley rice, mountain vegetable set meals, grilled short rib patties (tteokgalbi), chicken course dishes, Spanish mackerel sashimi, raw beef, Hwangchil duck baeksuk (boiled duck), and Korean traditional set meals, which are the most highly praised dishes by tourists visiting Haenam.

The county operates the Minam Food Hall, where local specialty restaurants showcase seasonal Haenam dishes, and the Snack Hall, which sells snacks made from Haenam’s agricultural and marine products, so visitors can enjoy Haenam 8 Mi even at the festival site.

At the Minam Food Hall, 10 carefully selected Haenam food establishments participate, each selling Haenam 8 Mi dishes highlighting their unique characteristics.

Among them, Jangsu Tongdak, the oldest chicken specialty restaurant in Haenam, and Dolphin Restaurant present chicken course dishes. Ihak Restaurant offers aged kimchi Spanish mackerel sashimi, Odaegam Restaurant serves Korean beef raw meat and yukhoe bibimbap, and Joeun Bapsang prepares grilled short rib patties.

Additionally, Dokkaebi Restaurant, popular among Haenam’s younger generation, features Korean beef noodles and kimchi-filled seaweed rice bowl as special festival menus, while Seoteun Eobu plans to sell various dishes using live octopus and Haenam mud octopus.

Furthermore, Dajeong Restaurant offers acorn jelly dishes, Maeun Yangpuni serves spicy pork ribs, and Sopung presents dishes featuring Haenam chive and stir-fried beef tripe. Barley rice and mountain vegetable set meals are available throughout the festival period at the specialized restaurants in the Duryunsan Food Village, the festival venue.

Also, the chicken course dish village is about 10 minutes from the festival site, and restaurants throughout Haenam serve Haenam 8 Mi, so visitors can enjoy delicious Haenam 8 Mi dishes anywhere during the festival.

The Snack Hall at the festival is also filled with healthy foods full of Haenam’s flavors.

The township residents’ autonomy committee and women’s association present simple dishes and snacks using local specialties such as sweet potatoes, seaweed, abalone, and ginseng.

The Haenam County food research group, the Local Food Resource Research Association, plans to offer traditional foods made from Haenam’s agricultural products along with various teas, and students from Duryun Middle School’s food club will sell snacks made with ingredients like cabbage, sweet potatoes, and octopus.

Along with these, representative Haenam confectionery companies such as Financier, The Rice, and Gapddeok sell sweet potato bread, potato bread, and pumpkin sikhye (sweet rice drink).

At the Haenam Minam Festival, events such as the 515-head Kimchi Bibim with the world and a tasting event of 2022 servings of chicken jangtteokguk (rice cake soup) will be held, along with various food experience events including nostalgic guiteo (traditional stove), sweet potato digging, Makgeolli making, and tea ceremony experiences.

A county official said, “This year’s Haenam Minam Festival has strengthened its identity as a food festival by carefully selecting specialty restaurants so visitors can taste representative Haenam dishes at the festival site,” adding, “We hope you enjoy a gourmet trip with three meals a day at the delicious Haenam Minam Festival.”
